In search of a new winning formula, the Drew University men's basketball team dropped its first two games of the season. While growing acclimated to recently-hired Coach Darryl Keckler's fresh system, the squad showed flashes of promise. Yet its inability to maintain consistency throughout the entirety of each game proved costly.
As the beginning of the 2008-2009 season kicked off, the women's basketball team jumped out to a hot start, winning the first two of their games. On Saturday, the Rangers beat New Jersey City University 58-42. The offensive surge was led by Jess Del Vecchio ('10) and Ashley Logan ('11).
Some people may differ on what they feel is the most American holiday. Sure, the Fourth of July is a favorite amongst many, maybe even Veteran's Day or Memorial Day. I enjoy the fireworks and respect what our soldiers have done for the country as much as any American, but the most American holiday is the one right around the corner, if you ask me.
Men's soccer ended their season on Friday, November 14th in a hard-played battle against Christopher Newport University of Virginia at Richard Stockton College in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament. The Rangers ended their 2008 season with an impressive 14-4-2 record.
The Drew University fencing teams trekked to Temple University to battle with Duke University, the University of North Carolina and Rutgers University last weekend in the 29th Temple Open. With close to 90 other fencers from several top teams in each of the individual competitions, the opposition was fierce for the men's and women's teams.
With winter just around the corner, indoor intramurals are starting up. Volleyball and squash are two sports that Drew University students just can't get enough of. In particular, student interest in volleyball has been incredibly high this year. Director of Campus Recreation, Andre Moore, estimated over 100 applicants for volleyball alone.
