Drew split with Scranton, losing the first game 3-0 and winning the second game 6-3. The Rangers followed the first day with a pair of wins against Baruch, at 4- 1 and 8-5. Drew also played Delaware Valley, losing both games 2-1 and 7-0.
The Rangers played a double-header on Saturday against Landmark Conference contender, Scranton. Lauren Collini ('09) took the mound for the first two games.
A few errors gave three runs to the Scranton Royals. Drew fell short in the bottom of the seventh inning. "After the first game we knew we needed to step up and get the job done," catcher Nicole Spiotta ('11) said.
The Rangers came back in the second game as infielder Megan Mesaros ('11) and first baseman Jillian Lusk ('11) both hit RBI singles. Third baseman Kerry Crowley ('08) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, bringing the score to 6-1.
"We went in, executed our plays, our pitching was great, our bats followed, and we came out with a victory," Spiotta said.
On Sunday, Drew played a non-conference double-header against Baruch. Lusk started the game off by hitting her third homer of the season. Crowley earned the winning runs for the Rangers.
The game ended with a score of 4-1. After the team paid tribute to its senior captains, Crowley and centerfielder Nicole Gagliardi ('08), the team began game two.
Thursday, the Rangers played another non-conference double-header against Delaware Valley. The two losses caused the Rangers to lose their winning record. The team put up a fight, starting with April Jacobs ('10) on the mound only allowing one earned run and striking out six hitters. The offense did not pull through for the win. Left fielder Jess Marko ('10) went up to the plate for the Ranger offense and got hit by a pitch that caused her to break two of her fingers.
The upside to that break was that her runner, outfielder Therese Postel ('10), pushed across the only run the Rangers scored in the game. Postel advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Spiotta and was driven in by a single from shortstop Kati Eggert ('11). Delaware Valley earned two runs, winning the game 2-1.
The team was no luckier in the second game. They were unable to put any runs on the board, but had a number of great hits. Right fielder Katie Mulligan ('09) hit two doubles and Crowley had a double, as well. Collini ('09) pitched in the second game, striking out five before Alexandra Aarons ('10) was brought in to finish the game. Aarons held Delaware Valley at seven runs.
The team, which is in third place in the Landmark Conference, will play against first place Moravian College in a double-header tomorrow.
