With all the controversy that the Student Government Association faced in the past year, the SGA needs a leader with idea and a thick skin-a person who's willing to put up with criticism from the students, while still fighting for the cause.

Though it's unrealistic to believe the SGA president alone will solve all the problems affecting every one of us, it is his or her job to make sure the administration knows the students concerns. They are here for the Drew student body.

Right now, we have senators and cabinet members who do not take their jobs seriously. They miss meetings without sending proxies and come up with ideas without following through. There is a level of responsibility that comes with the position of a student body representative, and it is time for our spokespeople to be accountable.

We need an SGA that will keep the students up-to-date by maintaining their main form of communication with the student body-the SGA website. Updating the SGA website every once in a while would be helpful, especially since half of the members currently listed are not in the organization anymore, or have graduated. We'd like to see what our democratically elected student representatives are up to every week. Maybe it will even connect the SGA a little bit more to the students, giving them a better idea of what concerns the student body. The Acorn believes that our SGA leaders, cabinet members and senators are the ones who possess the ability to increase discussion and communication with the student body.

Communication with constituents is key to making them not only happy, but also aware enough to care.

We challenge our newly elected leaders, whomever they may be, to take the initiative. Positive change in the student government leads to positive change for the student body. The Acorn has high expectations for the newly elected president and vice president. Drew needs two leaders who are ready to step up and use the full power the SGA has long been ignoring. The Acorn hopes the newly elected president and vice president are ready to put the "student" back into the student government.
