After dropping the first game of a doubleheader against Juniata College 3-2, the Rangers fell behind quickly in the second game, as they gave up six runs in the first inning and lost 13-2.
Despite the fact that starting pitcher Matt Levine ('08) turned in six solid innings during the first game, while allowing just three earned runs on nine hits, Ranger baseball could not manufacture enough run support to prevent him from getting the loss.
Juniata starting pitcher Andrew Snyder ('08) pitched a gem for the Eagles, surrendering one earned run on six hits during seven innings of work.
Snyder recorded four strikeouts and had the Rangers off-balanced and guessing all day.
"He's got one of the best fastballs in the conference," pitcher Evan Martens ('11) said. "It's probably around 86 or 87 miles per hour."
Although Snyder shut the Rangers down throughout the entire game, Levine kept the team close. The wily veteran found a way to escape several jams throughout the game.
However, Juniata first baseman Dan Kaufman ('08) seemed to have Levine's number all game.
Kaufman, who went three-for-three on the day, hit the go-ahead homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Eagles on top 3-2.
The Rangers tried to scrap back in the top of the seventh, but left the tying run just 90 feet away as the Eagles held on to win the first game by a score of 3-2.
After edging the Rangers in the opener, the Eagles carried momentum into the second game by pouring six runs on the board in the first inning.
After Snyder shut Drew down in the opener, starting pitcher Tyler Clifford ('10) was equally impressive in the nightcap. Clifford went the distance for the Eagles, holding the Rangers to just two runs on eight hits.
Juniata cruised to a 13-2 win, improving its overall record to 8-6, while remaining undefeated in Landmark Conference play at 5-0. With a pair of losses, the Rangers fell to 3-9 overall and an even 2-2 in the conference.
