College is a place where people can reinvent themselves. You walk onto a campus with a clean slate, a second chance to really be who you want to be. So while you might not find Allie Segal in the Black Box Theater of Dorothy Young-she once was involved with her high school's drama company-it would be hard not to notice one of the many other events on Drew's campus that she works tirelessly helping to produce.

First and foremost, Segal has dedicated her time and energy each fall to the Rangers field hockey team. From summer to fall, field hockey is of the utmost priority and not just because she loves to play, but as a commitment to her teammates who depend on her for leadership on the and off the field.

"As a teammate, she brought her positive personality onto the field. As a center fullback, Allie was responsible for seeing the whole field and helping to communicate to the rest of the team what she sees from the backfield," Kelly Anderson ('08) says. "Its tough to find a person who can play that position that doesn't make the rest of the team feel like they're being bossed around, but Allie managed to make everyone feel comfortable enough to trust in her knowledge of the game."

Apart from keeping active through varsity athletics, Segal managed to balance her time to fit in classes, sports and her other interests. It is a juggling act that, as Segal sees it, gave her more time to pursue things at her own leisure. But it is always the "work first play later" attitude that Segal really takes to heart. "I have my days broken down into 15 minute increments. I schedule everything from my shower to when I can go to the gym. And it allows me to know when I have time to just sit and relax," Segal says.

And when she signs on to something, she follows it through to the end and makes it a raving success.

The Mr. Drew Pageant, which was held for the first time last spring, was an event Segal wanted realized at Drew. She got the idea from her high school, knew what had to go into putting on the production, knew its potential for bringing a new avenue of entertainment to the Forest and saw an opportunity to bring in money for a good cause as well.

The event saw over 300 Drewids pack into the Baldwin gym, raising $800 for the cancer wing of the Morristown Memorial Hospital.

"She thinks of really creative ideas. Mr. Drew was something people thought wasn't going to work, but it was a great success," Director of Residence Life Christina Rishiy says. "Right now she's trying to get a Holiday Ball Part II.  There's the Junior/Senior Semi[formal] but it's exclusive. The idea is for a Spring Fling, but like Holiday Ball open it to the entire Drew community."
