Drewids who frequent the gym often may have noticed the ultimate Frisbee team practicing diligently late at night.

While other students may travel to Florida or the Jersey shore for spring break, the ultimate Frisbee team is headed for a different locale: Savannah, Ga., to play in a tournament including 40 other schools-Carnegie Mellon University, Skidmore College, Vassar College and Yale University.

"We just found out last Thursday we would be going to Georgia last week," Tracy Verrier ('10) said. "Eighteen people inside four small cars-it's going to be a fun trip, even when it gets smelly."

The tournament will last for five days. On Monday, the men's and women's teams- Drew Blood and Lovestack, respectively-will play in a hat tournament, where each of the players on a team is split up and assigned to an entirely new team.

The next three days will utilize pool play, which is the standard tournament style-each of the 42 teams is pitted against each other randomly and play everyone in their pool until they reach the championship, or the chopping block, to be played on Friday. Sightseeing will have to wait until the weekend.

This will be the second tournament in the team's season this semester.

Two weeks ago, the ultimate Frisbee team competed in a tournament in Mercer County with 10 other schools, securing 4th place overall.

Numbers turned out to be a problem for the teams.

Seven players are required to be on the field for play, and only 10 were present at the tournament for Drew.

"After four games straight-each one an hour long-and with only three subs, all of us were pretty tired," Verrier said. "We had made it to the championship bracket."

The ultimate Frisbee team's roster has gotten a bit bigger since last semester, with the total number of people on the team totalling 22.

"The actual number of people going on the trip to Georgia is around 16 to 18," Jesse Vanderhoef ('08) said. "There are still some people who are a bit iffy about going, since there's an average of 16 people at every practice."
