Coming off a sixth straight team title at the Eastern Women's Fencing Championships last weekend, Drew University's women's fencing team showed that it could dominate the meet individually as well.

The Rangers boasted top three finishes in each weapon in the EWFC Individual Championship Meet at Stevens Tech on Sunday.

Amy Lester ('08) and Alicia Rapp ('10) led the Rangers to second place finishes in foil and sabre.

Lester went 17-1 overall on the day, tying her for the best record in foil with Elizabeth Oliver ('10) of Hunter.

However, Hunter received gold due to a tie-breaker that involved the calculation of touches scored minus touches received.

Lester scored 60 more touches than she had received.

However, Oliver won the tie-breaker with a plus-70 rating on the day.

Dina Attyeh ('11) took seventh in foil by going 12-6 on the day. Virginia Cooper ('11) grabbed the eighth spot with an abouve .500 record, at 10-8.

Rapp scrapped her way to silver in sabre with an impressive 15-2 record. Carlin MacNichol ('11) followed right behind by taking fourth at 14-2 on the day.

The Rangers' epee squad was the performer of the day, however, as all 3 women placed in the top seven overall.

Allison Walters ('10) led the way for Drew with a second place finish.

Like Lester, Walters tied for the best record at 14-3, but lost the tie-breaker to take bronze.

Naomi Bocarsly, the 2006 EWFC champion, took fourth place at 12-5. Heidi Einholz ('11) also placed in the top 10, going 10-7 to take seventh overall.

"I've been really impressed with how consistent the women's team has been," Sulia Mason ('10) said. "It's not often that you get that many performers near the top."

After steamrolling through the EWFC championships and conquering a difficult field of competition in the individual championships, the Rangers have all the momentum going as they head into their next conference championship meet on Sunday at USMMA and the NCAA Regionals at home on March 1st.

Two critical meets remain, and the Rangers are poised and ready for the task.

Through individual improvement, the teams have taken great strides.
