The Drew University women's basketball squad suffered a serious blow to their postseason hopes this week.
The Rangers are now on a three-game losing streak and dropped back-to-back weekend games against conference opponents on the road.
There is some hope left for the women, however. The rangers have three games remaining on their schedule, and each is against a Landmark Conference opponent.
The Rangers knew knocking off first place University of Scranton on their home court would be no easy task. Unfortunately, the game was never even close. Scranton jumped off to a hot start and never looked back. Scranton had a twenty point half time lead.
Although the Rangers played a better second half, it proved to be too little too late.
The Rangers played a sloppy game, turning the ball over twenty-eight times and shot well under forty percent from the field. It is difficult to win a game with such statistics. The Rangers lost the game by a final score of 72-44.
The Rangers saw the same result the next day, although the game was a little more competitive. Once again the Rangers sputtered in the first half of the game, and were outscored by twenty.
The second half saw the rangers outplay and outscore their opponent, yet the deficit proved to be too great for the Rangers. They lost by the score of 74-60.
The past two conference losses have been particularly painful for the Rangers.
The team knows they are capable of playing better ball, and have been competitive in many of their losses. The talent is there, yet the carelessness appears too often.
Laura Methvin said, "The past weekend wasn't the best representation of our ability," forward Laura Methvin ('09) said. "Playing the top two teams in the conference, back-to-back, is never easy, but it has allowed us to recognize some things that we need to work on. We are looking to fix them for our up-coming games.
With this in mind, the Rangers hope to cap the season with the performance of which they know they are capable.
