SAAC to host activities for spring term

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee held its first meeting of the spring semester last week. Student athletes and non-athletes alike met to discuss several of the upcoming events which are scheduled to be held at Drew.
Though the average Drewid is free to attend or miss any many of the meetings as they like, student athletes have a more stringent obligation to the club. At least two representatives from each of the teams on campus are required to attend SAAC meetings, which makes sure that each sport is well represented.
Athletes from the swimming, lacrosse, field hockey and rugby teams were present, just to name a few.
While the first meeting was a bit lacking in attendance, the subject of the meeting was still informative nonetheless.
The Battle of the Bell, which was canceled last year due to a sudden viral outbreak at Fairleigh Dickinson University, will take place this year on April 5th barring outside circumstances. The annual tournament pits Drew, FDU and the College of St. Elizabeth in a series of competitions ranging from kickball to relay races.
The majority of student athletes at Drew appear to be happy with the newly formed Landmark Conference, according to the team representatives. The reason for the Conference's creation was linked to academic reasons, as it deemed favorable for Drew to be playing teams up to intellectual as well as athletic standards. The men's soccer team has already had a thrilling first season in the conference, culminating in their championship win, and this bodes well for the Drew's spring season.
Last year's Mr. Drew contest which took place in the Baldwin Gym last year, was largely considered a success.
Students not only filled all available seats in the Baldwin Gym, but were jostling for room to witness the contest. Anticipation for the 2008 Mr. Drew contest is so great, that already names of potential contestants have been suggested to the SAAC executive board.
Drew students will have to wait a bit longer, however, before the names of the contestants are announced.
Drewids can look forward to attending more SAAC meetings throughout the semester.
