After a quarter-century of dedication to Drew University, College of Liberal Arts Dean Paolo Cucchi will be stepping down.

A committee composed of two students, two administrators, two trustees and eight faculty members, and chaired by Professor of History Perry Leavell, have been in the process of searching for a new dean.

"In January, for two days, we held at the Marriott hotel at the Newark airport, interviews with [nine candidates for the job]. From those, we've picked three. Right now we're down to three candidates. They have all been invited to campus." Leavell said.

The candidates will be visiting on Feb. 13 and 14, Feb. 18 and 19 and Feb. 27 and 28. Gary DiClementi ('11), a student representative on the committee, said that because of confidentiality concerns, the Drew community will not be told who the candidates are until 24 hours before each visit. "During the campus visits, the candidates will have lunch with a selected group of students [who are] representative of the student body," Provost Pamela Gunter-Smith said in an e-mail.

The committee is made up of student representatives Cristal Reyes ('08) and DiClementi, trustees Pamela Moed and Leo Grohowski, Dean of Continuing Education and Career Services Ron Ross, Assistant Director of Athletics and women's soccer coach Christa Racine, Assistant Professor of Political Science Carlos Yordan, Professor of Psychology Janet Davis, Associate Professor of Art History Margaret Kuntz, Associate Professor of Spanish Monica Cantero-Exojo, Associate Professor of English Peggy Samuels, Professor of Physics Robert Fenstermacher and Assistant Professor of Computer Science Shannon Bradshaw. Also on the committee in an official, non-voting capacity are Provost Pamela Gunter-Smith and Affirmative Action Officer George-Harold Jennings. The committee was assisted by Dr. Stan Hales, a representative of a firm called Academic Search, who has provided guidance as well as a network of contacts throughout the process.
