The Drew University women's basketball team is undefeated in the Landmark Conference after winning against United States Merchant Marine Academy.

The Rangers still have a losing record at 2-3, but the next column over is an impressive 1-0. It is possible that this big road win will be the point in the season the Ranger's look back on as the beginning of a momentum shift. The game was tight for the beginning of the game.

"Before the game, I said that it would be decided by turnovers and free throws, which we have been very inconsistent with this season," Coach Gail Gilchrest said. "The team did a great job of executing our offense and connecting on 40.8 percent of our shots."

The Rangers went on a run late in the first half to go up by 11. They finished the first half on top 28-21.

The resilient Mariners narrowed the Ranger lead to a one possession game twice in the second half.

Rangers of all classes chipped in to expand the team's lead back to a more comfortable nine-point margin with less than 10 minutes to play.

The Mariners worked the lead back down to 6 points, but this was the last bit of life the Mariners would show.

The Rangers secured the game with a huge 11-0 run, sparked by guard Allison Hartnett ('08). This put the Rangers up 60-43. The Rangers coasted the rest of the way and won the game by a score of 72-59.

The Rangers' win was a result of contributions from many players. Hartnett continues to impress and led the way, scoring 21 points and playing a sound defense.

"Hartnett is our leader by performance on both ends of the court," Gilchrest said.

The defense was particularly impressive, and limited the role of the 6'4"conference-leading scorer. Guard Marissa Maffei ('11) impressed coming off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-5 shooting.

Forward Jessica Del Vecchio ('10) showed off her touch from the arc and added 12 points to the effort. The Rangers also got big games from forward Laura Methvin ('09), and guard Ashley Logan ('11) and forward Jessica Reid ('11).

"I feel like we knew what we had to do to win the game," Del Vecchio said, "and we went out there and did it."

Their next match up is this Saturday against New York University.
