As the semester begins to wind down and finals gear up, who doesn't want to escape the stress of papers and exams, even if it's just for one night?

Last weekend, most Drewids used the ever-popular Holiday Ball to forget their responsibilities-whether they were Organic Chemistry exams, Philosophy papers or simply walking a straight line. Some Drewids danced their stress away and others blacked out, but in all, they took advantage of this annual escape. However, that wasn't the only entertainment Drew had to offer last weekend.

That's right, I'm talking about Revels-That Medieval Thing's annual dinner show.

As a senior, I had never attended Revels before, because it always fell on the same night as Holiday Ball. While I do love the medieval period-it is my concentration, after all-I never wanted to miss the chance to dress up with my friends and embark on what were sure to be some ridiculous escapades.

This year, however, TMT did a wonderful-and very smart-thing. They held Revels on both Friday and Saturday nights. And I am so glad they did.

Upon entering the Great Hall last Friday, I was taken back first by the beauty of the building and then by the scene unfolding around me. In the front of the room sat a king, his queen and their royal children, and throughout the hall, servants sped to and fro, filling glasses with warm cider and plates with bread and cheese. I was seated at one of three long tables, each set for a feast. Nearby, Frankie, a boy of about seven, was soaking in the wonders around him. I knew exactly how he felt.

A few comedic plays, a room full of Vikings and three cups of mead later, I was having a fantastic time. I was surrounded by classmates who had transformed this one room into an Irish castle and were playing out before me a tale of warring kingdoms and true love. Their costumes were colorful and intricate, their combat skills impressive and their comedic timing perfect. And the best part? This was a night created entirely by Drew students, for Drew students.

However, I don't want to overlook the fact that the tables were also filled with alumni, family and administrators-and this was only the first night. Saturday had already been sold out.
