Sex sounds too loud for student to handle

This week's inquiries deal with practical college situations.

Students are concerned with professors hitting on them, how to handle age discrepancies in relationships, and dealing with people who have sex way too loud in their dorm rooms.

Q: Hi, I'm a female in my junior year and there's this guy who's cute, funny and not afraid to admit that he's a Journey fan. Perfect, right? I think so, except for the fact that he's a freshman and I'm a junior. I don't want "my baby" to actually be a baby. My roommate says age is just a number, however, I say dating a number that's lower than your's just doesn't work. I like him, but I feel like I should be putting fruit snacks into his mouth instead of my tongue. What do you, in your infinite sexual wisdom, think I should do?

A: Older women dating younger men has always come as a shock to our society. It is not until recently that we have started to accept this sort of relationship, as evident in Hollywood. Famous older women younger men couples and include Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz (10 years age-difference), Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin (5 years), Courtney Cox and David Arquette (8 years), Madonna and Guy Ritchie (10 years), Vanessa Williams and Rick Fox (6 years) and the infamous Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher (15 years). When it comes to your particular situation, you should do what feels right to you. If you think this guy's maturity level matches yours, then you should by all means date him. Keep in mind however, that just because Hollywood has started this fad, doesn't mean it's necessarily the right thing. I hope you don't go out and date high school boys, 'cause that's just being a sheep.

Q: I'm a senior male and my dorm is usually quiet, but every so often I am troubled by loud sex noises from a particular room. They are pretty regular, although they can come at any time of the day. The noises are especially upsetting in mid-afternoon. I am not a prude, but I don't like to hear the whole soundtrack, you know? I want to tell the screaming young couple to keep it down, but how should I approach the topic?

A: The easiest way to solve this problem is to go to your Resident Assistant and make a complaint. The RA will go talk to the resident of that screaming room and ask them to keep it down. This way you can avoid confrontation and prevent any awkward moments. If for some reason the RA is not able to get through to the screamers, the next time they decide to grace all of Drew with their sex noises, you should just go up to their room, pound on their door and tell them to keep it down.
